I began my journey at Thompson Rivers university in Fall 2019, majoring in Animal Biology, I loved that path I was on, and even during the pandemic, I continued my studies virtually until Winter 2021. Along the way, I discovered a passion for chemistry, thanks to an inspiring professor who taught with such passion that it made a significant impact on me. They say it’s the teacher that makes the difference, no the classroom, and in my case, that teacher truly inspired me to consider a different path.
Believing that you must be good at something to enjoy it and have a bright future, I made the radical decision to switch my major to chemistry in Fall 2021. However, that semester was incredibly challenging, both academically and emotionally. I felt drained and uncertain if this was the right path for me. By Winter 2022, I decided to take a gap year to reflect on my life and figure out what I truly wanted to pursue.
During my gap year, I volunteered at Wildvet Veterinary Services in my hometown.. I t was a transformative experience. I found myself again, rediscovered, my passion, and realized that working with animals was that I truly loved. I learned a lot about animal health, observed surgeries , and witnessed the recovery of animals who came in sick and left stronger and healthier. It felt right.
In fall 2023, I returned to TRU, recommitting to my initial major in Animal Biology. That whole experience was worth it because it led me back to my true path, and i’ve never felt better about myself and my future. My journey so far has shown me the importance of finding and following my true passion, even if it requires detour
